Dual focus for safety in November

This month, our safety focus is on keeping a clean and tidy workplace and snake bite first aid.

Happsa’s Compliance and Operations teams held several training and refresher sessions for our cleaners on identifying and treating snake bites and ensuring that workspaces such as cleaners’ rooms are safe, compliant, and tidy.

Happsa’s OHS Compliance Manager Ray Dole said that this month’s topics were a seasonal reminder for operational staff to ensure they are aware of snake bite first aid steps particularly at Happsa’s regional sites and a reminder on workplace organisation.

“If someone is bitten by a snake, most people won’t know if it’s a dry bite or a venomous bite – so to be safe, they should always treat any bite as a venomous bite.”

“We are reminding staff of the step-by-step process to follow if they are ever required to treat a snake bite,” said Ray.

It is also important to keep a clean, tidy, and organised workplace.

“We are also reminding staff that an organised workplace promotes a positive environment, more accurate management of inventories, an increase in productivity, and fewer accidents and staff absences,” said Ray.

Each month our OHS Compliance team run Safety Campaigns with differing topics with operational staff (site supervisors and cleaners). Staff are reminded and reinstructed on Occupational Health and Safety topics.
