Safety Campaign – managing the risks of working in heat

This month, we are focusing on managing the risks of working in the heat. Happsa’s Compliance and Operations teams are holding several training and refresher sessions throughout January onsite.

OHS Compliance Manager Ray Dole, said that working in heat can be hazardous and cause harm to workers if not properly managed.

“We are reminding our people to alter their work practices depending on the season to work safely, look out for others and be a safety champions.”

“Our people are being instructed to look out for and identify risks and hazards and ensure they are wearing the correct PPE to minimise residual risks associated with working in heat,” said Ray.

“We are training staff to ensure they are also well hydrated and acclimatise to their working environment.”

Each month our OHS Compliance team run Safety Campaigns with differing topics with operational staff (site supervisors and cleaners). Staff are reminded and reinstructed on Occupational Health and Safety topics.

Ray said that the monthly reminders for Happsa staff create a level of awareness of safety practices where staff and management keep each other accountable.

“Our aim is to build a safety-first culture and minimise the risk of injury,” said Ray.
